    Research strategies for studying how spoken and written language  shapes activities (eg, design, instruction, counseling, gaming interactions, e-commerce, etc.). Tracking patterned uses of language as verbal data (eg, grammatically topically, thematically), formulating approaches to investigation, and designing studies to answer questions through quantitative descriptive methods. Sampling, collecting and managing data, developing coding schemes, achieving reliability, utilizing descriptive statistical measures, and reporting results.

    A survey of the history, technology, narrative, ethics, and design of interactive computer games. Work in teams to develop novel game designs and implementations. Introduction to the interplay of narrative, technology, rule systems, and game culture in the creation of interactive. Programming experience not required.

    Seminar introduction to research in art and design, addressing theoretical, historical, and methodological contexts for individual exploration. Reading, discussion, and presentations will highlight current work and developing concepts in media arts. The course covers methods including sourcing, process, documentation, critiquing, speaking, and writingn about visual concepts.
